A couple weeks ago Christy and Kalani (aka our microgreen growers) offered to start building a compost pile on our farm (a project that we've had on the back burner for a while).

Every Saturday they come out to collect our crop residue and add it to our compost pile. They layer our green waste with mulch (wood chips) in a mound and water it deeply before covering with a tarp. Every couple weeks they "turn" the pile or poke the pile with a stick to add aeration. Meanwhile, bacteria, fungi, bugs, and worms break down the organic matter and in 6-12 months some beautiful compost will be ready to use on our farm!

PS. We currently buy compost from Island Topsoil to supply our farm. If you're interested in buying comport for your garden I'd recommend checking out https://zerowasteschoolhui.org for high quality compost.
